Innovating Resilience: Flood-wise Urban Development in Greater Houston

  • Partnership Tower 701 Avenida De Las Americas, Suite 900 Houston, TX, 77010 United States (map)

ABOUT THIS EVENT

As Houston continues to grow and attract innovation districts, mixed-use developments, and tech-driven community hubs, integrating flood resilience and forward-looking planning has become essential. Recent research from the Greater Houston Flood Mitigation Consortium shows that about 165,000 multi-family units across the region are vulnerable to flooding, housing some 475,000 people who face elevated risk. Meanwhile, reports also warn that current regional drainage, detention, and development regulations may actually worsen downstream flooding under certain conditions.

This panel will explore how innovation spaces can lead by example — using smart design, regulatory alignment, and public-private collaboration to build mixed-use developments that not only thrive economically but also remain safe, sustainable, and equitable. We’ll look at what tools, incentives, and oversight are needed for Houston’s next generation of innovation districts to be flood-wise by default.

Forums are hosted the first Tuesday of each month and bring members together to get a pulse on the industries and initiatives shaping Houston as a great global city. Whatever your industry, our Forums offer invaluable networking and insights on the latest trends affecting Houston’s future.
